I tried it, laying down on Greatheart's back, trying to mimic his actions. "If we are attacked by archers, do this." He lay down the length of his horse, his body pressed tight along the horse's spine, his face almost buried in the horse's mane. I turned, and lifted an eyebrow at Iften in surprise. I looked around to find Keekai not far, mounting her own horse. The camp was abuzz around us, as the last tents were taken down and packed. When he was satisfied, he mounted as well. He walked around Greatheart, checking the various straps that made up the tack. Iften frowned at me from the ground, took my satchel, and secured it to my saddlebags. As it is, I find myself struggling to paint a picture in my head, and I'm not the least bit concerned for the characters and I definitely don't care about the romance aspect.I nodded, and tried to mount with some grace.
He then walked to the bar and ordered a drink." If the author put the time into describing character, scene, situation details, and made the main character's personality more stable, this could be a good book.
It's like reading an AOL fantasy RP example: "John strode in and his piercing blue eyes gleamed. The rest of the characters are flat, with little personality detail and vague physical descriptions. The main character is bipolar or manic she flips between being submissive and terrified she will be beat, to outright manic rage and defiance! She is the kind of woman you avoid in RL because you have no idea what expect. The actual story\plot is interesting, and that is the only reason I finished it.
I hope you enjoy this story as much as I have over the years. This series is amazing and takes you on an epic emotional adventure. There is just something about it that captures you and makes you want to read this book over and over. If you are a historical romance reader or fantasy one, you'll enjoy this book. I would of still liked a younger voice, but it didn't ruin one of my top favorite books of all time. Why would you do that? But then, I let the story play on and I got use to voice of Susan and I was ok with it. I thought, how dare you ruin one of my favorite books with a bad narrator choice. I at first thought the voice of Lara sounded too old. So, when I started listening to this book I was actually mad and hated the narrator choice. Someday has come! I can't believe I didn't know about this when it first came out. About a year ago I asked EV if there would be an audiobook, and she said, maybe someday. When I found this book, I immediately bought it.
