I encourage listeners to buy Sycamore Row instead. I wanted to love it as I did Sycamore Row but it was very disappointing. What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment? I'm returning this book with after listening to only 27% of it.
One of the characters sounds like Barney Fife! I've tried to get past it but listening has become a chore. He talks to fast for my liking and his southern accent was not believable. What didn’t you like about Alexander Adams’s performance? I'm moving on to The Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood. What do you think your next listen will be? I guess I didn't read the book description well enough because it turns out that this is narrated by Alexander Adams and, after the rich southern accents of Sycamore Row, this narration just isn't up to par.
I bought this book because I so enjoyed Michael Beck's narration on Sycamore Row and the cover lists him as the narrator. Cobb and Willard rape her and attempt to murder her. He is likeable, smart and sassy, but his flaws sometimes grated on me. This novel takes place in northern Mississippi in 1984. His characters are unique and quirky, their dialogue spot on. She is kidnapped by Billy Ray Cobb and Willard on her way home from the grocery store. ‘A Time to Kill’ is Grisham’s first novel and in it his remarkable talents are displayed. What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
